Speed project in order to participate in the SOS Arte online show, Sem Limites!
The SOS Arte group is a fresh Art movement that came out of the pandemic struggles in the artistic world, in these very strange and hard times. I became a member and it`s quite interesting to see this kind of strength coming out of such a limited way of living that we are all going through.
With a very short deadline for developing a new piece, I decided to create something less complex than usual, especially because I had only 3 days since I decided to participate in this open call, to develop the idea that I wanted to covey.
The Ugly in Us is a symbolic piece that wants to personify the bad human characteristics coming out of the mirror when one looks at it!
For this open call, the Artists are working in confinement or creating about confinement and under its influence, so the pieces will absolutely reflect the times we are living! In my case I wanted to express the worse side of people, that even in such a special and delicate moment like this, is exactly what we are constantly witnessing around us, in social media for example, with constant critic and aggressive behaviors. So, though much good is done, this ugliness keeps jumping just in front of our eyes, by peoples behavior and, if they look themselves in the mirrors in that precise moment, I can swear that they would see these black tentacles coming out of it ;)

“THE MAKER” - My name is Graça Romano and I'm a Visual Artist who sees itself as a Maker of things. The experience of making something out of nothing is an extremely stimulating process. It all begins with an idea of a project, of exploring some specific material in order to create visual beauty within a pattern. My creativity combined with some perseverance and curiosity has taken me to unexpected and surprising outcomes! Visual aesthetics usually connected to patterns and lots of handworks is my favorite thing as an explorer! I began to explore the mediums in 2003, and over the years, I have been developing my body of work! Although most of the Art Pieces are just visual, nowadays I'm becoming more interested particularly in doing intervention Art Pieces, combining aesthetics with a concept! Using Art and the work as a vehicle to interact and make a social and environmental difference! In my opinion, all mediums can be assembled in a beautiful, inspiring, aesthetic way! Even trash!
